April.2009- Vancouver

MO: How do you feel about the success of the movie this far?

TB: It’s pretty overwhelming. I mean, you had talked to me what...two years ago? and the idea of finishing it was exciting, and the idea of being on set was exciting. I remember saying at our last wrap party speech, thank you so much to all of the actors for just being a part of this, because it was the experience alone that was worth everything. And then on the day that we had the premiere screening it was so overwhelming for all those people to come out and actually watch the film. It was quite a journey to get there. And now the fact that somebody might want to purchase it, it’s just like what? Really? Okay, this is fun. I love making movies, but I never expected to make money off of it. I just want to keep making more movies.

MO: What have you learned throughout the process?

TG: Oh so much. Dave (MacKenzie) and I are writing another film together. He played Matt two and he is actually a really talented writer. He’s written this script, and we’re kind of co-writing, and I’m going to direct it, and we’re hoping to shoot it next year. So I learned a lot about production, stuff that I just didn’t know from film school. Also I think I learned how to make a movie, I mean that’s kind of a big deal going through that process. It’s more experience than I would’ve ever gotten, you know it’s climbing up the ladder.

MO: A thriller is extremely different than a romantic comedy, what is going to be new for you?

TB: With Life in 24fps, being on set was fun. We were joking around and singing and laughing. Well the cast was, I was more stressed out (laughs). You know it was light hearted and it was a comedy and there was bloopers. Getting into the mind set of method directing, where you are feeling what the actors are feeling I think is going to be really different. I’ve had conversations of how it’s not going to be a fun set to be on. It’s not going to be "Yay, lets get to work", it’ll be more like "I need therapy when this is over."

MO: Are you looking forward to it?

TG: I’m looking forward to it. It’ll just be a different experience. I have that much more knowledge of the process and I hope to just keep learning from it. I think it’s going to be fun in a sense, just not in a sense that we’ll have bloopers to show afterwards.

MO: From your past experience with Life in 24 fps, what are you looking forward to the most with this new project?

TG: Definitely directing. I’m really excited about the new script, because I think it’s somewhere where I’ll have to get into a really different head-space, because it’s a really different kind of film. We’re calling it an 'intellectual dramatic thriller' as opposed to a romantic comedy.  I’m excited to get back into that head-space and I’m excited to work with Dave again, he’s got this raw talent that you can’t get from just anywhere. So I’m excited to direct him if all goes well with that. I’m excited to produce which is something I’ve never really thought I would want the responsibility of doing again.

MO: Do you think you made contacts in the past that will help in the future?

TG: I hope one day to get this entire cast and crew back together. I’ve already talked about it- about what we could do. Our next project, and then the next and the next. All of the people that worked on this film are so talented and they’re so caring, they’re my family now.

MO: Do you still keep in touch with them?

TG: Oh definitely. Whenever I go back we do some karaoke. Obviously I want to talk to them more, but life happens. I definitely have so many intentions- I want them all to be famous. I want the world to love them and see how awesome they are. They gave me their time and their talent. I hope that I’m able to do big things with this film, so that I can give them a little bit back.
